Rules & takedowns
Torric doesn’t check what’s uploaded before it’s shared. Whoever uploads a track is responsible for having the right to share it, and whoever posts is responsible for what they post. We don’t tolerate objectionable content or abusive people: what breaks these rules comes down, and so can the person who posted it.
Not allowed
- Audio you don’t have the right to share, once its owner objects.
- Sexual content involving anyone under 18, ever. See child safety.
- Harassment, threats, and hate aimed at people for who they are.
- Encouraging violence or self-harm, and promoting terrorism.
- Other people’s private information, shared without their consent.
- Spam, and pretending to be someone you aren’t.
- Anything illegal where you or the people you share with are.
Some words and phrases are filtered: a post, profile, track or name that uses one isn’t published.
Report
Every track, post and profile has Report in its menu. A moderator reads each report and can take a track out of the catalog, remove a post, or ban whoever is responsible. Block and Mute, in the same menus, keep someone away from you straight away, without waiting for anyone.
Private messages and group chats are end-to-end encrypted, so moderators can’t read them. If someone abuses you there, block them and report their profile, saying what happened.
Nearby’s public room travels between phones over Bluetooth with no server in between, so nobody can moderate it centrally. Mute anyone there with a tap; messages vanish after six hours.
Takedown notices
If you own the rights to a track on Torric, or act for whoever does, and want it taken down, write to contact@torric.app with:
- The work: which song or recording is yours.
- The track on Torric: its title and uploader, or a link to it.
- How to reach you: your name, and an address or email.
- A statement that you’re the owner or authorised to act for them, and that you believe in good faith the upload isn’t allowed.
Notices under India’s Copyright Act and the US DMCA are both welcome in this form. You can also report the track from its menu, saying you own the rights: it reaches the same moderator.
What a takedown does
Tracks live on listeners’ phones, not on a server, so a takedown has to reach them. The track leaves the catalog and search, and our tracker stops introducing its peers. The moderator also signs a takedown that travels with the catalog: every copy of Torric that receives it deletes the track, stops sharing it, and won’t download it again.
Every action is logged. Accounts that upload other people’s work again and again are banned.
If we got it wrong
If your track or post was taken down and you believe it shouldn’t have been, because it’s yours or you have permission, write to contact@torric.app saying which, and why. A mistaken takedown is lifted the same way it was made, and reaches every phone again.
Grievances
Complaints about content on Torric, or about a moderator’s decision, go to our grievance officer at contact@torric.app, with “Grievance” in the subject. We acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days, as India’s IT Rules, 2021 require.
