Help with Torric

Most answers are below. If yours isn’t, write to contact@torric.app, or use Report in any menu in the app: it reaches the same people.

Getting started

Install Torric and start listening: search, play, make a library. None of that needs an account.

To post, follow people, upload or join a group, make an identity: open the Social tab, tap Set up (or go to Account), then Create an identity and pick an @handle. It takes a few seconds and asks for no email, phone number or password.

Your identity and recovery phrase

Your identity is a key made on your phone and kept in its secure keystore. When you make one, Torric shows you a recovery phrase, once. Write it down somewhere safe.

The phrase is the only way to put your identity on another phone, or back on this one after a reset, and the only way to sign out a lost device. We never see it and can’t recover it: there’s no email to send a reset to.

Using Torric on another phone

On the new phone, go to Account, tap I have a recovery phrase and type it in. Your playlists follow you between your devices. Account → Devices lists every phone on your identity, and you can sign one out from there with the phrase.

A track won’t play

Tracks don’t come from our servers: they come from the phones of people who hold them. If nobody holding a track is online, it waits until someone is. Popular tracks start at once; rare ones can take a while.

Check that you’re online, then try again later. A track that says it isn’t in the catalog has been taken down.

Storage and data

Torric keeps the music you play so it can share it with the next listener. Account → Storage sets how much space it may use, and shows what’s in use, what you’ve kept and what’s cache. The more you share, the better your sharing ratio, which is shown on your profile.

Sharing uses data. On a limited plan, keep the storage small.

Nearby

Nearby reaches the phones around you over Bluetooth, with or without internet, and moves tracks over a direct Wi-Fi link. It’s early, and Android comes first. It’s off until you turn it on, and asks for the Bluetooth and nearby-devices permissions it needs (location, on older versions of Android).

In Nearby you’re anonymous, “anon-3f2a”, until you choose to show who you are. Private talks and group chats are end-to-end encrypted.

Reporting, blocking and muting

Every track, post and profile has Report, Block and Mute in its menu. Block ends follows both ways and keeps the two of you apart; Mute just quietens someone. A moderator reads every report. The rules say what isn’t allowed and what a takedown does.

Taking down a track you own

If a track on Torric is yours and you didn’t agree to it being there, see takedown notices.

Deleting your identity

Account → Delete identity erases it from every device. What’s deleted, what’s kept, and what to do without the app.

Privacy

No ads, no analytics, no advertising tracking. The privacy policy lists everything Torric keeps and who can see it.

Contact

Write to contact@torric.app. Say which phone you use (Android or iPhone) and, if it’s about your identity, your @handle. Never send your recovery phrase: nobody at Torric will ever ask for it.
